In this case it is Shorewalk, a single family home community we designed with McCarthy Companies. Fortunately for us, it is located in a master planned community RiverPark that we’ve been involved with since its inception with RiverPark
After a public hearing in downtown Los Angeles, I took a quick trip to check up on the progress of the Silverlake houses. The first house, sold after the foundation was poured, is completed and occupied. It was interesting to see from the outside how another team of architect and homeowner finished what we started.
Among other things, we design merchant-built housing. We look at this as an opportunity for the average person to live in an architect-designed home that fits their lifestyle and they can afford. From the Builder’s side, the emphasis is on efficiency and providing housing to meet the demand. One of our Merchant Builder Clients also has
the challenge: a 2300 square foot site surrounded on three sides by a street. a fifteen foot drop from one side of the lot to the other, but great hillside views. significant zoning constraints, an arduous approval process within an established neighborhood, and a conservative budget. creative clients with a keen sense of architectural history.
